Compatto

The new Brocock Compatto semi-bullpup air rifle incorporates engineering and manufacturing expertise from one of the finest Italian shotgun makers and air rifle technologies from Daystate, makers of the finest English made air rifles.

The Compatto is not just a new model to come out of the English factory it is the first all new gun to be 100 % designed and produced by the new Diana group with their considerable resources and attention to quality. Striving to attain airgun perfection the Brocock team is proud to offer this new semi-bullpup performer.

The Compatto sports a true ballistic nylon, high grade synthetic stock with no-slip surfaces molded in and a picatinny rail for bipod use. This robust but lightweight stock is finished at the butt with an adjustable, soft curved pad. The heartbeat of this new generation rifle is the one piece breech block that anchors the Lothar-Walther barrel for bench rest capable accuracy.

The Huggett sound moderator reduces report to super low levels increasing the Compatto's flexibility for use in the field or the back garden. A three-step power adjuster gives settings at 30, 25, and 20 ft lbs of energy in 22 caliber. A very efficient, all new firing system rewards the shooter with many consistent shots per fill and one of the smoothest, almost effortless cocking actions.

The cocking bolt is placed in a forward position in the stock for fast, easy and accurate follow up shots. The Compatto's trigger is a two stage, fully adjustable unit that breaks clean at approximately 3 lbs at the factory setting. A paddle safety is conveniently placed for quick and quiet, on and off use. An 11m rail is forward mounted for a comfortable scope position.

The Compatto represents one of the best values for money and will please even the most critical airgun shooter and collector.

The Compatto is the newest addition to the Brocock line and it's worth every penny.  The Compatto has got to be one of the best backyard pest control PCP's that has come along in some time and there have been quite a few nice ones in that category.. The gun can be purchased with or without a Huggett moderator. As one would expect, the Huggett moderator quiets the gun quite a lot and makes it very backyard friendly. Without the moderator it has a fair bark but is not terribly loud. I suspect most shooters might opt for the optional Huggett moderator unless they live in an area with no neighbors or intend to hunt in the woods. If purchased with the Huggett moderator, be aware that it will be permanently attached to the barrel.

In addition, it is also very accurate. The Lothar Walther barrel performs as one would expect....beautifully. As with most PCP's, it shot best with round headed pellets such as the JSB Exacts and Beeman FTS/H&N FTT's.  Add the Vortex Supreme pellet to the list of excellent performers also. The trigger was crisp and is set light enough to be just right for all purpose shooting.

The ambidextrous synthetic stock is very comfortable and is light in weight and balances very comfortably. All in all, it is a very good looking rifle. The gun weighs approximately 7.2-7.4 lbs. (without or with a moderator) and at .34" it's shorter than a yardstick. Like it's predecessors. the Contour G6 and S6, it felt a bit odd to load the magazine and then lift and position the gun on the rest with only one hand.  The bolt works flawlessly but a hint to the new user. The inner half of the bolt is smooth and the outer part is knurled. Using the knurled part of the bolt to cock the gun can lead to a sore finger after a long shooting session. I discovered that sliding my finger to the inner smooth part of the bolt made the cocking much easier and eliminated any chance of a sore finger later. It cocked just as easily and smoothly that way also.

The magazine is probably the biggest change to the Compatto over the Contours and Concept Elite G6/S6's. The Compatto now has a 10 shot magazine completely redesigned and boy, they got it right this time. The magazine loads extremely easily and slips right into place from the left side of the gun. It indexes easily and smoothly and most importantly....flawlessly. No hangups, no misalignments, no problems of any sort. It also was able to shoot the "shorter length" pellets that the other models couldn't such as the Beeman Silver Bear or H&N Hollowpoint. However, our experience with magazine fed pcp rifles is that round headed pellets work best and you should concentrate on them.

The power level was totally dependent on the pellet used as is always the case with airguns. But the results proved to be a bit higher than the Contour and Concept Elite G6/S6's which topped out at 24-25 fpe. The Compatto topped out at 28 fpe making for a nice improvement in power. In addition, the Compatto has three power levels. High, Medium and Low, any of which is attained by simply turning a small knob on the right side of the gun. There isn't a huge power difference from one setting to another but it is a really nice feature where full power isn't always needed, say for backyard shooting. High power yielded 865 fps at High setting, 853 at Medium setting and 788 fps at Low setting. That equates to 26.3 fpe at High setting, 25.5 at Medium setting and 21.8 fpe at Low power settings.

The rifle gets approxiamtely 30 good shots in either caliber before needing to be refilled and considering the small size of the gun and air tank, that is pretty impressive. This gun is going to be popular with shooters because if using a handpump the smaller tank size means less pumping is needed to fill it to 200 BAR (3000 psi) and those using a scuba tank or carbon fiber tank will get more fills too.
Bottom line....well, the test gun is going home with me. Everyone else will have to get one of the others in stock. Available in .177 and .22 calibers
